Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Sunday pushed for the return of internally Displaced Persons IDPs in Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam LGA of Borno State.
Malam-Fatori is a high-risk area of the state, bordering Bosso, a town in the Niger Republic where thousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are currently taking refuge.
The governor, who was in the town to assess the condition of the area and discuss modalities ahead of relocating the people, said he’s satisfied with the security put in place by the federal government.
“I have interacted with the officers here, and looking at the commitment and hard work of the commanding officer, I believe we can resettle the people back to this community.
“I am happy that many people of Malam-Fatori, who reside in Bosso were able to cross over and cultivate their farmlands; this is a huge achievement,” he said.
Zulum commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt attention to the fight against the insurgency in the Northeast.
He also assured his maximum support to the troops carrying out operations in the area to complement the federal government’s effort to end the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Governor also extended his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his commitment to restoring peace in Borno State.
Recall that the Borno State government resettled hundreds of people in the Malam-Fatori community last year but were displaced by flooding, hence the need to help them back to their ancestral homes.
