I’ve appointed 2,000 aides since assuming office – Diri
Governor Douye Diri said says he has appointed nearly 2,000 political appointees to serve in his 19-month-old administration.
Diri, who was inaugurated along with his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo on February 14, 2020, promised to make more appointments soon.
He said this at the weekend during a grand reception organised in his honour as well as Senator Seriake Dickson, Ewhrudjakpo and the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, in Sagbama, by the Bayelsa West Senatorial District chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Diri spoke against the backdrop of grumblings within the PDP over appointments.
He said, “Please, don’t divide the house (PDP); don’t divide our family. Our family has moved from the Restoration Government to the Prosperity Government. Don’t divide it.
“Sometimes I’m bothered when people say, ‘I have not been given an appointment’. Wait, your turn will come. We have appointed close to 2,000 now, and we are still appointing. So, wait, your own turn will come.
“Just because you don’t have an appointment, you want to divide our family; it will not work. Don’t divide our family, we will remain one. Rather, we will bring more people to our family and we have been doing it. They have been coming and we receive them with two hands.”
He stressed the need for unity among members of the party in the state.
