Umar said that the goal of the new registration is to guarantee the accessibility of a database for monitoring. He mentioned that parents had been told not to pay fee increases at any of the schools.

“The purpose of the new registration is to ensure that we have an accurate database for the government’s policy and monitoring, to sanitise the sector,” he continued. Everything we are implementing for the state’s private schools’ operation complies with the law passed in May 2014.

“Fee increase requests have been suspended for the time being. Parents should notify any schools making these requests. No school will ever be permitted to increase tuition on its own again.

Because private school operators are not nonprofit organisations, he said, the state government will also make sure that parents pay their children’s tuition at the same time. He added that those private school operators who fail to submit an application by the deadline will face consequences if they are discovered to be in operation.
