Due to safety concerns in the aviation industry, Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has called a meeting of leaders of aviation regulatory authorities.

The conference will involve a comprehensive evaluation of recent instances, according to the minister.

Due to bad weather, United Nigeria Airlines’ Lagos-Abuja flight was recently rerouted to Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

Sunday, or yesterday, saw the departure of flight NUA 0504, which was bound for Abuja, from Terminal 2 of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport.

At the Asaba International Airport, though, the captain grounded the aircraft, which confused several of the passengers.

“I have called the heads of the regulatory agencies to my office later today to review the incidents that are the source of these concerns and to make sure that appropriate steps are taken to forestall future occurrence and to apply sanctions, where necessary, regarding the past incidents,” Keyamo tweeted in response to public concerns expressed about safety in the aviation sector.

Less than a day has passed since the article with the headline “Risky voyage: Passengers fret over increasing runway slips, crash-landings” was published before the minister’s summons.

The terrifying experiences of airline passengers who recently avoided runway excursions, crash landings, and other errors were reflected in the report.

It also made clear the worries of a number of aviation stakeholders and the difficulties the industry faces with regard to management, infrastructure, and navigational safety, among other issues.

Three runway excursions at two international airports were reported to the nation in a span of 14 days.

This year, there have been at least ten documented cases so far.
