Pa Adeife Ifelaja, a 70-year-old pastor and piggery farmer in the Ijebu Igbo parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the seat of the Ijebu North Local Government Area, has been kidnapped by mobsters.
Nine days after he was kidnapped at his Ijebu Igbo home on the evening of December 31, 2023, while getting ready to attend the Crossover service to ring in the New Year, Pa Adeife is reported to have been held in the kidnappers’ den.
Our correspondent was informed by a reliable source that the kidnappers had contacted the family and requested a N50 million ransom.
“Yes, it is true that Pa Adeife was kidnapped on Sunday, December 31, 2023, while getting ready for the Crossover service,” the source confirmed. I found out that the kidnappers want N50 million, which the family claimed was a significant amount. I don’t know if the ransom was paid, but I heard they were negotiating for N10 million. The Ijebu Igbo police station received a report about the event.
Abiodun Alamutu, the Commissioner of Police, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that state command operatives were doing everything within their power to guarantee the farmer’s release and reunion with his family.
According to Alamutu, “The police have been genuinely trying to get the man freed; we are on it even though the kidnappers have been attempting to mislead us about where they are, but we are on their trail and very soon, we shall succeed.”
