Labour Party’s Electoral Success Preceded Obidient Movement, Says Party Chieftain in Response to Tanko
Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the “Obidient Movement,” has come under fire from Ibrahim Idoko, the National Vice-Chairman of the Labour Party, North-Central, for allegedly saying that the movement is larger than the LP.
In an interview with Arise News on Tuesday in Abuja, Tanko reportedly said that the Obidient Movement is larger than LP and will look for alternatives to serve Nigerians if the political party opposes accountability and good government.
Idoko, however, rejected Tanko’s remarks in a press release sent to reporters on Wednesday, calling him a political opportunist attempting to appease his bosses.
Tanko and his fellow travelers are naughty, he added, noting that the LP had been winning elections and making great strides for years without the Obidient Movement.
“This is absurd, to put it mildly, coming from a former national chairman of a deregistered political party,” the statement said. A quick overview of the Labour Party’s achievements prior to the emergence of the Obidient Movement is necessary for Tanko and his supporters.

It’s clear that Tanko and his fellow travelers are either incredibly ignorant or living in denial; in any case, they’re just being naughty.
“For a very long time, the Labour Party has been winning elections throughout Nigeria. For the record, Abia State’s current governor, His Excellency Alex Otti, was not the first governor chosen under the Labour Party’s platform.
Former Ondo State Governor His Excellency Olusegun Mimiko served two terms in office. In many states, the party has also had representatives in the House of Assembly and National Assembly.
It should be mentioned that the Labour Party’s platform helped elect well-known politicians like Hon. Samuel Godday of Benue State, Senator Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Delta State, among others.
“Tanko is just being cheeky and trying to get his paymasters to give him relevance.” In 2027, if Tanko and his supporters want to take a different route than the LP, then so be it. Although we have no ill intent, we are certain that the Labour Party will continue to strengthen under the direction of Barr. Julius Abure and the current National Working Committee, and that the LP will win the elections in 2027.
