The Lagos State House of Assembly started examining the cabinet candidates that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sent to them on Friday, July 28 on Sunday.
By the end of Monday, a House ad hoc committee formed for the task and charged with screening the applicants had narrowed the field down to 20 of the 39 candidates.
By Wednesday, when the process is anticipated to be completed, all of the cabinet nominees should have undergone screening.
Mobolaji Ogunlende, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Lawal Pedro, and the recently-retired Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatals Monitoring, Afolabi Ayantayo, were all examined on Sunday by a committee headed by the Chief Whip of the House, Mojeed Fatai.
On Sunday, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Olugbenga Olaniyi, Ogunwuyi Ekundayo, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, Ibrahim Layode, and a former state lawmaker from Badagry named Adetokunbo Wahab were also checked.
The former Special Advisor on Housing to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Mrs. Adetoke Benson-Awoyinka, and the former Executive Secretary of the Yaba Local Council Development Area, Mrs. Bola Lawal, were both cross-examined by the committee on Monday.

The 12-person ad hoc committee for the exercise had just been formed by Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the House.
The Chief Whip stated at the start of the screening that the duty in front of the MPs was in accordance with a clause in the 1999 Constitution.
The selection process and confirmation of candidates for commissioner and special adviser positions are the responsibility of the House of Assembly.
He added that the House would be given the committee’s advice. “Recall that on July 28, 2023, the Executive Governor of Lagos State submitted a total of 39 commissioners and Special Adviser candidates,” he said.
Adedamola Kasumu, Ajomale Oladipo, Saheed Babafemi, Nureni Akinsanya, and Ajani Owolabi are a few of the individuals who make up the screening committee.
Additional names include Sa’ad Olumo, Sanni Okanlawon, Adewale Temitope, Ajayi Oladele, Abdulkareem Jubril, and Orekoya Abiodun.
