Commercial drivers and squatters under the Obalende Bridge have been given a four-day ultimatum by the Lagos State Government to leave their shantytowns and relocate any illegal motor parks to the state’s official parks.
The directive was issued in a statement on Sunday by Kunle Adeshina, the director of public affairs for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment, all abandoned cars, shanties, and the people living in them under the Obalende Bridge have to leave by Thursday afternoon. Enforcement action will start on Friday morning, Adeshina reported.
Commercial vehicle owners who damage Obalende’s natural beauty, according to Adeshina, ought to relocate to one of the many parks the state has designated for them.
“After the squatters are gone, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency will take over to start beautifying and landscaping Obalende Under-Bridge, Apongbon Under-Bridge, and Ebute Ero Under-Bridge,” the commissioner stated.
According to report, the Lagos State Government had previously given squatters beneath the Lagos Blue Rail Line overpass and the Ijora Causeway Bridge a similar ultimatum.
