Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has said it is a misguided move for the Federal Government to keep trying to arrest Sunday Igboho.

Falana said instead of wasting time on how to arrest Igboho, the government should address the critical issues Igboho’s emergence on the country’s social-political milieu has brought to the fore.

Falana said in a statement yesterday that the Buhari administration should start addressing the lopsided appointments, youth unemployment and insecurity.

The activist wrote, “Instead of asking the police to arrest Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Igboho) and possibly detain him, the Federal Government should take urgent steps to address the allegations of lopsided appointments and violent attacks on farmers by armed herders.

“As a matter of urgency, the Buhari administration should confront the worsening insecurity in the country. In particular, the war on counter-insurgency should be extended to armed herders and bandits.

“At the same time, the crises of youth unemployment and mass poverty should be addressed without any further delay. The Federal Government and state governments should implement pro-people’s programmes to discourage Nigerians from campaigning for the balkanisation of the country.”

Falana said this in reaction to reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammadu Adamu, sent letters to Igboho during the weekend.

Acccording to Igboho spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, the first letter from the IGP came through DHL while the second one was delivered by a team of police officers.
Igboho had earlier accused the Nigerian army of spying on him.

He said he caught two soldiers deployed for that purpose in his neighborhood.

But the Nigeria Defence Headquarters switchly replied that it couldn’t stoop so low to spying on an individual.
