On Monday, the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan issued an order to remand one Bello Jamiu to the Agodi Correctional Centre for the alleged rape of a 56-year-old stroke patient. The court found that Jamiu was responsible for the abuse.
Mr. E. A. Idowu, the Chief Magistrate, who did not take the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction, ordered the remand in order to await the legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Following that, he postponed the discussion of the issue until the 16th of May.
According to the reports, Bello is currently being held on a count charge of rape.
The prosecutor’s attorney, Inspector Femi Oluwadare, testified in court that Bello engaged in sexual activity that was not authorized with the 56-year-old woman on March 14, around four o’clock in the afternoon.
Oluwadare testified that the victim, who had suffered a stroke and was lying in a hospital bed, was sexually assaulted by the defendant against her will.
According to him, the crime was committed in the Okikiade neighborhood of the Ajala area in Babanla, Ibadan.
According to him, the offense constitutes a violation of Section 357 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000, and is punishable under Section 358 of the same document.
