Justice S. M. Shu’aibu of the Federal High Court in Kano, on Monday, convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old, man Nasiru Isa, to seven years imprisonment for sexually exploiting an 11-year-old girl.

Isa, a resident of Darmanawa Bayan Gidan Kallo of Tarauni Local Government Area of the state, was sentenced to a count of sexual exploitation.

The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, and sentenced the defendant to seven years without an option of fine.

Justice Shu’aibu also ordered the convict to pay an additional N1m fine as compensation.

Earlier, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Kano State Command, said Isa committed the offence at the Darmanawa Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano State on October 5, 2024.

The prosecuting counsel, Abdullahi Babale, said Isa lured his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter into his wife’s room and sexually exploited her.

“Isa had sex with the survivor on three different occasions.

“Once in the convict’s wife’s room and twice at an uncompleted building.

“The convict gave the survivor bread, groundnut and N20 before sexually exploiting her,” Babale told the court.

The prosecution presented two exhibits, including the confessional statement of the convict and the survivor’s testimony, to the court to prove his case.

According to Babale, the offence committed contravened  Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 and is punishable under Section 26(1) of TIP ACT 2015.
