Military neutralises terrorists who killed soldiers in Borno

The military high command, on Sunday, disclosed that it has neutralised six of the terrorists who killed its personnel along Biu-Buni Yadi road, Borno state.

It also revealed that the troops reinforced immediately after the incident and levelled the terrorists’ hideouts within the Timbuktu Triangle.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, who made these known, clarified that only one Lieutenant was killed.

Buba, a Major-General, said four other personnel, who were injured, are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Daily Trust had reported how at least six soldiers lost their lives in an ambush along Biu-Buni-Yadi road, Borno state on Friday.

They were ambushed by Boko Haram insurgents at Kamuya, a village close to Buratai, the home town of a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), while on their way to Damaturu to buy fuel.

Giving an update on Sunday, the military said the remaining terrorists in that axis are currently in disarray following aggressive pursuance by the troops.

He said, “On 5 Apr 24 at about 09:35hrs, Troops of Operation HADIN KAI encountered terrorists’ ambush along Road Buratai-Buni-Yadi

“Sadly, during the encounter, troops lost a Lieutenant who was killed in action. While four personnel were wounded in action and receiving treatment.

“Troops reinforcement pursued the terrorist to their hideout within the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact.

“Troops neutralised six of the terrorists recovering 5 AK 47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7. 62mm special ammunition.

“The remaining terrorists ran in disarray. However, troops are in hunt of the remnant terrorist that fled the firefight.”
