At the ‘Trash for Gas’ initiative in Ikate/Elegushi, Lagos, Chief Olalekan Bakare gives a gas cylinder to a beneficiary.

On Sunday, the Oba Saheed Elegushi Foundation’s environmental sustainability initiative, “Trash for Gas,” provided benefits to over 200 families in the Ikate/Elegushi area of Lagos State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the program, which is in collaboration with Smart Gas, strives to preserve a sustainable society and clean environment.

Speaking to the recipients, Dr. Yinka Opeke, Chief Executive Officer of Smart Gas, explained that the goal of the campaign was to encourage cooking gas use as a safer substitute for kerosene, firewood, and charcoal.

We’re teaching you the value of residing in a more hygienic and salubrious setting.

The use of charcoal and firewood for cooking has a detrimental effect on the environment because of the emissions, but it also has an adverse effect on your health because women and children inhale the majority of the smoke.

“We presented this initiative to the Oba, who decided it was appropriate to deliver it to your doorstep. For this reason, he has provided funding for these cylinders today.

“Your neighborhood will be left cleaner and healthier as we swap your rubbish for our gas cylinders.

Opeke begged, “Please use these cylinders wisely.”

Chief Olalekan Bakare, the Aro Oba of Ikate/Elegushi, expressed his concern about climate change in his speech. He noted that the topic was especially important to him personally.

Bakare claims that the initiative’s main goal is to guarantee a healthier and cleaner environment by encouraging community sanitation.

“Using wood to cook is not a healthy option and should not be pursued going forward.” Cooking with gas produces cleaner results.

“We will continue to campaign about the importance of keeping the environment clean, and Oba Elegushi will continue to support anything for a sustainable economy,” he declared.

The effort was also praised by Mr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, who said that it will save the environment.

“This is a thing of joy for me and my family,” said Mrs. Idayat Onikoyi, one of the beneficiaries. We appreciate Smart Gas and the Oba for their endeavor.

Mrs. Kafayat Saulat, a different beneficiary, expressed her appreciation for the traditional ruler’s initiative and other contributions to the community’s growth.

According to NAN, in exchange for a 3kg full gas cylinder apiece, the locals received hand gloves, tools, and garbage bags to gather and sort recyclables.
