Adams Oshiomhole, senator for Edo North, has named his state as Nigeria’s greatest after Akwa Ibom.
On Wednesday, Oshiomhole made the announcement during the Senate’s valedictory session in honor of Governor Monday Okpebholo on the Upper Legislative Chamber floor.
The legislator stated that Okpebholo had taken significant moves to change Edo State within 30 days of taking office as governor.
According to Oshiomhole, “We can all agree on one thing: Senator Monday is the most modest man I’ve ever encountered.
“His humility is contagious, and while being a man of few words, he compensates for it by clear and identifiable acts.
“Mr. President, we in Edo State are overjoyed because I can now go home without fear, and in one month, he has made history as one of the first governors to begin appointing men and women who will help to sharpen Edo State’s economy and social life.
“He has already taken courageous efforts to restore respect to Edo State’s traditional institutions, and he has already begun doing things that would impact the infrastructural development of our wonderful state, which has been neglected for many years. Everyone he appointed, including the Attorney General, is someone we already know.
“I want to thank you, sir, for the leadership you provided, not only while he was here, but also for all of the moral and other support that this Senate provided under your leadership, to support, encourage, and do everything that you could — other than coming to vote, which you are not privileged to do because you are not registered in Edo State, but you relocated to Edo to give us solidarity when we needed it the most.

“On behalf of the people of Edo State, who are overjoyed to have a new Sheriff in town, a progressive Sheriff at that, I’d want to thank you for your leadership, concern, and support, as well as all of the senators you organized. Even when the former governor threatened to raid the INEC office and manipulate figures, some of our senators donned boxing gloves to protect Edo State’s votes.
“We are pleased that after 30 days, Edo residents are aware that there is a new governor in town who is humble, resourceful, and bright, with minimum words but maximum action.
“We are grateful to all prominent Senators who supported us in our struggle to recapture Edo State. Senator Monday, I thank you for the personal honor you have bestowed upon me, as well as on all those who have met you since your appointment as executive governor of the greatest state after Akwa Ibom.”
