Nigerians have been alerted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to a fake online loan application that is making the rounds on social media.
The phony offer, headed “N200,000 Palliative Loan By the Senate,” has the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) coat of arms and logo next to an inaccurate picture of Akpabio.
The fraudulent plan purports to offer rapid loan approval and was shared on Facebook under the username Templeshort.
A statement by the official spokesperson for the President of the Senate, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, announced that the Senate has no affiliation with Templeshort and is not associated with any Facebook handle operating under that name.
The statement urged members of the public to pay no attention to the advertisement as it did not originate from the Office of the President of the Senate.
Eyiboh emphasized that Akpabio is not associated with any loan program or palliative arrangement, characterizing it as the work of con artists and dishonest people looking to take advantage of gullible Nigerians.
Honorable Eyiboh emphasized, “Senator Godswill Akpabio is not working with the CBN or any other financial institution on any loan facility as a form of palliative.”
Eyiboh further exhorted the people to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities and to ignore such schemes.
