Senate President Goodwill Akpabio on Tuesday accused Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi, of damaging the picture of the Senate.

Akpabio was reacting to Ningi’s N3.7 trillion finances padding allegations.

Ningi had alleged that initiatives value N3.7 trillion within the 2024 Appropriation Act aren’t traceable.

Ningi, who’s the Chairman of Northern Senators Discussion board, alleged that the Nationwide Meeting debated and handed N25 trillion as 2024 finances and never the N28.7 trillion that’s being carried out by the Federal Authorities.

He made the allegation whereas talking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.

The Presidency denied the allegations, and though the Northern Senators Discussion board distanced itself from his claims, Ningi has insisted that the finances was padded.

Condemning the comment, Akpabio challenged Ningi to apologize for denting the picture of the Senate.

Talking on the ground of the Senate, Akpabio mentioned: “I need Nigerians to know what Mr President offered to us in a joint assembly on the finish of November 2023 for consideration was N27.5 trillion, so at no time did the President current N25 trillion.

“If there was any addition to the finances, it was N1.2 trillion.

“This isn’t the speech I anticipated, I anticipated a speech of anyone saying I used to be sorry for being misquoted, the misinterpretation was this.

“However you went again to Come up TV yesterday evening to justify your place that you’ve got paperwork, even now in entrance of this Senate you claimed to have paperwork and they’re with you.

“No senators or Nigerians know. On the similar time, Nigerians are bashing the Senate; most Nigerians won’t ever come again to respect this Senate sooner or later. The picture of this chambers have been completely broken and we needed you to restore it together with your speech.

“As a substitute of that, you claimed to have extra paperwork to show what you might be saying.”
