The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Olokoyede, has been instructed by President Bola Tinubu to “thoroughly” probe Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Tinubu’s instruction was included in a statement that his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, signed.

According to the statement, the President’s order was consistent with his declared intention to maintain the greatest levels of accountability, integrity, and openness in the governance of the Nigerian commonwealth.

The President additionally orders the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out an exhaustive examination of all facets of the financial dealings involving the Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Affairs, along with one or more of its agencies.

Furthermore, in an effort to finally reform the pertinent institutions and programs in an effort to eradicate all institutional weaknesses for the sole benefit of impoverished households and restore public trust in the initiative, the President has charged a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and the Minister of Finance with performing, among other things, a thorough diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programs.

Ngelale declared, “The President’s orders are effective immediately.”

According to leaked records, Edu gave the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation instructions to deposit N585.18 million into Oniyelu Bridget’s personal account.

According to the Ministry, the aforementioned Oniyelu is currently employed in the states of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos, and Ogun as a Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups.

However, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, the Federation’s Accountant-General, disregarded Edu’s order and declined to pay the specified amount.
