NDLEA seizes N56.9m in illicit substances in FCT, arrests 343 people

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, FCT Command, reported intercepting approximately N56.9 million worth of suspected illicit substances totaling about 3,091.032 kilogrammes between January and the present.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr. Kabir Tsakuwa, the agency’s commandant for the FCT, made this disclosure.

In addition to suspected cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, tramadol, rohypnol, diazepam, ecstasy, and megadon were among the illegal substances recovered, according to Tsakuwa.

He added that 328 males and 15 girls were among the 343 drug suspects that were detained during the time period under investigation.

 

Tsakuwa added that 188 drug offenders were charged during the time period under consideration, and 126 of them had received convictions and sentences ranging from probation to prison time.

He claimed that of the 3,091.032kgs of illegal narcotics collected between January and the present, cannabis sativa represented the largest seizure.

Tsakuwa stated, “Drugs seized included 3,022.529 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, 0.114 kilogrammes of cocaine, 1.25 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, and 0.0021 kilogrammes of heroin.

We also found suspected amounts of Rohypnol 1.195 kilogrammes, Diazepam 4.471 kilogrammes, Ecstasy 0.113 kilogrammes, and Megadon 0.263 kilogrammes in addition to 18.578 kilogrammes of Tramadol.

“These medications are worth about N56, 903, 600 just in money,” the statement reads.

According to the NDLEA chairman, within the same time period, 102 drug users received counselling and were freed, while 33 people with drug use disorders were rehabilitated.

Tsakuwa stated that the agency would take part in a combined operation to clear the FCT of shanties and trouble places with the assistance of other security agencies.

He claimed that these were places where it was thought that drug misuse and criminal activity were prevalent.
