The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expelled its presidential candidate for 2023, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for refusing to appear before its disciplinary committee.
According to the NNPP’s National Executive Committee, Kwankwaso’s dismissal is effective immediately.
The NNPP’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
The NNPP suspended Kwankwaso on August 29 during its National Convention in Lagos for serious anti-party activity and mishandling of campaign finances.
Following his suspension, the party’s National Executive Council formed a disciplinary committee, which invited Kwankwaso with the condition that if he did not present and defend himself, he would be expelled.
“The NEC met in an emergency session on Friday, September 1, and resolved as follows,” Abdulrasaq stated in a statement.
