The Kogi State All Progressives Congress chapter denied allegations that Governor Yahaya Bello and Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s national chairman, came to an agreement and conceded several newly appointed national executives’ posts.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, the state party’s chairman, disputed the claims in a statement released in Lokoja on Friday, according to News Agency of Nigeria. He claimed that the claims were “falsehoods being propagated by enemies of our party.”
The North-Central Zone’s new Zonal Organising Secretary, Ikani Shuaibu Okolo, and Deputy National Publicity Secretary Duro Meseko have both drawn criticism from the Kogi APC.
According to reports, the governor was enraged by the choice of Meseko over Bello’s chosen candidate and former Special Adviser on Water Resources, Yahaya Ismail, and on Thursday he invaded the party’s national offices with a few supporters to halt the installation of the officers.
The Kogi APC continued, “The alleged compromise being spread by the APC’s adversaries in Kogi to the effect that the governor had been told to present the zonal organizing secretary and concede the deputy national publicity secretary is incorrect.
“That report contains absolutely no truth. We are aware of the individuals responsible for spreading such rumors and fabrications, but we are still dedicated to our role as the party’s national chairman, and we all intend to safeguard and uphold the party’s charter.
“Concessions were not addressed because doing so would be against our party’s charter and the standards of due process that we have established.
“Governor Yahaya Bello is a devoted party member who only accepts what is legal,” said one observer. He expressed that he had the utmost regard for both the party’s leadership and the President.
As all parties had agreed to uphold the party constitution, he continued, the party’s issue was practically settled.
Our governor has no animosity toward any one person and is merely acting on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of APC members in Kogi.
