Residents of the Edu area in Idanyin community in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State were left in shock after an unidentified man allegedly collapsed and died on Sunday, TheNigerian Metro reports.

According to information obtained on Monday from the state police command, the man, believed to be in his late 40s, was later confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, explained to TheNigerian Metro that the deceased was walking past a local shop in the community when he suddenly lost consciousness.

Odutola further stated that the shop owner, identified as Iheadiri Blessing, reported that she was standing in front of her shop at about noon on Sunday when the man, who was passing by, suddenly collapsed.

“Upon receiving the report, officers from the Divisional Crime Branch promptly arrived at the scene,” Odutola said.

She added, “The man was rushed to the CEMA Medical Hospital in Edu Gasoline, where the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival. Police officers used a phone found in the man’s pocket to contact his family.

“Family members arrived shortly after and, finding no grounds for suspicion of foul play, requested the release of the body for burial in their village. The police complied, handing over the body to the family.

“No formal complaints have been lodged, and the area remains calm. Our men continue to monitor the situation to ensure peace and order.”

TheNigerian Metro reported a similar incident on Monday after a 26-year-old woman, Toyin Balogun tragically died under similar circumstances on Saturday.

Balogun was found struggling for breath in her apartment in the Gbokoniyi area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

A neighbour forcibly entered Balogun’s apartment after she failed to respond to calls when they needed a key belonging to another neighbour.

The police confirmed that Balogun was discovered with foam around her mouth. She was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead.
