The leading Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, has denounced Dr. Godwin Emefiele’s suspension and subsequent arrest. Dr. Emefiele was the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The arrest and detention, according to Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, were a manifestation of ethnic cleansing.

In a statement that Mazi Chima Uzor, director of National Interest Matters, reportedly provided to journalists, the group reportedly disclosed this.

Emefiele’s suspension did not adhere to due process, the organisation claims.

The move, he continued, is a deliberate effort by the current administration to exclude Igbos from holding public office.

The assertion said:

“The Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Worldwide hereby condemns in full the suspension of Dr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, by the Bola Tinubu administration.

“To put it mildly, this suspension lacks due process, and the arrest despite a court order prohibiting the DSS from doing so is presumptuous; well-meaning Nigerians must oppose it and ensure that it does not stand.

We see this as clearly being a part of the new administration’s plan to remove Igbos from public office.

The Igbos are the targets of a witch hunt because they dared to vote against the new government in the most recent general election, that’s all.
