The Ondo State Police Command has said the case of a businesswoman who was killed last week is not swept under the carpet as it is being insinuated in some quarters.
The late 54-year-old woman, Olakunbi Adene, was found dead in her residence located at the Oda Road Area of Akure, the state capital, last week Sunday.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased’s lifeless body was found on her bed in a pool of blood, which raised suspicions that she was murdered by unknown persons. It was also learnt that the deceased celebrated her 54th birthday a few days earlier when she entertained her guests.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, in a chat with our correspondent, on Sunday, disclosed that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command.
Odunlami however said the command had not made any arrest over the incident but had not stopped work towards unravelling the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim.
The PPRO said, “Underground investigation is ongoing as the case has been transferred to the state CID. We have not made any arrests yet but we are very much on the matter. There is no way such a case could be swept under the carpet.”
Speaking on the incident, the deceased’s husband, Mr Dele Adene, expressed disappointment with the police for not arresting anybody yet in connection with the incident.
Adene said, “I was told that my wife’s corpse was found on her bed in a pool of blood which showed she was hacked to death. I cannot believe that no arrest has been made up till the moment of talking to you. I feel suspects should have been arrested.
“Her phone should be tracked and I don’t know how dwellers in the building did not know such a thing happened in a house with four flats.”
Meanwhile, a police source disclosed that the remains of the deceased had not been buried as an autopsy would be conducted to ascertain the cause of her death.
“While the investigation is ongoing, the corpse has not been buried because the autopsy would be conducted on the corpse to know the real cause of her death,” the source stated.
