Gbegele Mustapha has been detained by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of Adijat Olaoye.

The deceased was allegedly subjected to an attempted rape in her room in Akure, the state’s capital, in the Fanibi Area, according to the police.

The 58-year-old woman reportedly struggled to free herself, fell, and died as a result.

Speaking about the arrest on Tuesday at the state police headquarters in Akure, the state commissioner of police, Taiwo Jesubiyi, identified the suspect as a Togolese labourer who worked nearby.

Jesubiyi added that the suspect had been smoking Indian hemp, which had an effect on how he behaved.

The head of the police department declared, “On May 17, 2023, a case of attempted rape was reported at the Fanibi Division against one Gbegele Mustapha, age 29, a labourer from Togo. He entered Mrs. Adijat Olaoye’s 58-year-old victim’s room with the intention of raping her. She struggled with the woman and fell to the ground, hitting her head.

In Ekiti, a 21-year-old rapist was given a life sentence after being found guilty of the crime. “Neighbours who heard the noise rushed into her room and saw her bleeding; she was taken to the hospital while the suspect was arrested. In the hospital, the woman later passed away.

“The suspect admitted during questioning that the Indian hemp he had that day had an effect on him.”

The state’s Owo Local Government Area’s administrative centre, Owo, was the scene of some suspected cultists’ arrest by men of the command, according to the police chief.

As a result of the horrific activities of cultists in Owo and its surroundings, the command organised raids of the affected areas, which were led by Area Commander Owo. The teams, which were made up of all tactical teams, busted the suspects’ hiding places, according to the commissioner.

The suspects are Adewale Monday, 22, Fadaunsi Monday, 27, Olopona Olamide, 34, Ifedayo Michael, 20, Isiaka Jimoh, 30, and Olatunji Ojo, 35.

As soon as the investigation was finished, the commissioner promised, all of the suspects would face charges in court.
