Oshoala makes history as first African to score at three FIFA Women’s World Cups

Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has become the first African player to score at three different editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 28-year-old achieved the feat after netting Nigeria’s third goal in their 3-2 victory over World Cup co-hosts, Australia on Thursday.

The nine-time African champions came from behind to down the Maltida in front of home crowd in in Brisbane.

Van Egmood put Australia in front in the first minute of first-half extra time but Uchenna Kanu leveled for the Falcons at stoppage time.

Defender Osinachi Ohale gave Nigeria the upper hand in the 65th minute after heading home off Rasheedat Ajibade’s pass.

Seven minutes later, Oshoala scored the goal that etched her name in the history book as first African player to score at three different editions of the tournament.

The Barcelona Femení scored her first World Cup goal in 2015 in Nigeria’s 3-3 draw with Sweden in Winnipeg.

She scored her second World Cup goal in the Falcons’ 2-0 victory over South Korea at the 2019 World Cup in France.
