The local branch of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has leveled accusations against the state’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke, claiming that he is concealing the truth about the accomplishments of his administration.
A statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the State chairman of the party, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, recalled that Adeleke, as a guest at the 16th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service held at Love of Christ Generation Church, C & S, Victoria Island, Lagos, last Sunday, reeled out some of the projects that were unknown to his administration and some that were executed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
According to the APC, Adeleke spoke about fictitious initiatives as well as those of his predecessor, which garnered him accolades from the previous president, Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo praised Adeleke for mixing active public duty with dancing.
Lawal continued his response by saying, “It is not an understatement to declare that Adeleke does not warrant any honors for any reason as he is yet to prove his mettle that he has what it takes to properly manage Osun State.”
“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be a man and bold enough to tell the former President Obasanjo that the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Ikirun road, which his administration has been laying claim of having completed within 100 days in office, was already completed by 75 per cent by the administration of the former Governor Oyetola.
“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be truthful enough to tell the former President that the establishment of the Ilesa University was one of the landmark successes of the immediate-past governor of the state,” one may say. “The Ilesa University was one of the landmark achievements of the immediate-past governor of the state.”
But in response to the APC chairman’s claim, the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in the state, Sunday Bisi, criticized the APC for trying to minimize Adeleke’s performance as governor. Bisi also pointed out that the position of the opposition party would not change the fact that the current administration has accomplished a great deal.
According to Bisi, “For Sooko Lawal, he would go down as a politician who is always at war with the truth no matter how blatant it is.” By publicly casting doubt on the accomplishments that Governor Adeleke has made in the past ten months, he brought his well-known propensity for distorting the truth to a level that was the lowest of the low.
“It is unreasonable, if not insanity, for Sooko Lawal and the APC to deny Governor Adeleke the credit for the completion of the 10 kilometers of Osogbo-Ikirun dual carriage road. In contrast to the misleading position taken by Sooko Lawal, the road is in the condition that it is in today because of the pragmatic leadership of Governor Adeleke, which was duly acknowledged by the contractor handling the project. If it hadn’t been for Governor Adeleke’s leadership, the road could have suffered the same fate as many other projects that were scrapped during the Oyetola administration.
“While we empathize with the APC for lacking the character and capacity to appropriately carry out its opposition duty, we must warn that it would be making a grave mistake to imagine that it can hoodwink the public with lies and irresponsible stance that seems to define its strategy lately.”
