Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo, the Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic in Iree, was removed from his position by the Osun State Government because of allegations of financial irresponsibility and abuse of office.

In a letter that was signed by Mr. A. Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, it was stated that Odetayo, who had been appointed Rector in March of this year, would be placed on administrative leave.

A copy of the letter that suspended Odetayo on July 11, 2023 read in part, “You are hereby suspended as the Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, the sequel to the strong allegations of financial recklessness, corruption, misappropriation of fund, and abuse of office among other things.” This letter was obtained in Osogbo on Monday.

“You are to be placed on immediate suspension while the investigation into the allegations that have been levelled against you gets underway in the very near future.”

Odetayo was appointed as the sixth substantive Rector of the polytechnic by the immediate past governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, towards the twilight of his administration. However, Odetayo’s appointment was reversed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, shortly after he took over reign, along with other actions taken by his predecessor after the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

However, the administration that had suspended his appointment reinstated him for a new term of four years on March 10, 2023, through a letter written by the state Head of Service, Leye Aina.

In the meantime, the government has made an announcement regarding the appointment of Mr. Kehinde Alabi to the position of Acting Rector of the institution.

The appointment was said to have gone into effect immediately in a letter written by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

Alabi served as a lecturer in the Department of General Studies at the Polytechnic prior to accepting his new position there.
