Plan International is working in collaboration with other stakeholders towards developing a roadmap for adolescent well-being, health, and development in Nigeria.
The country director, of Plan International, Charles Usie Emmamuzou, made the disclosure yesterday during the organization’s adolescent and youth conference in Abuja.
He said the conference builds on the evidence that young people desire to shape their destinies, adding that they “were working on a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and creation of a concrete roadmap for adolescent well-being, health and development.”
He said, “For too long, the needs and aspirations of adolescents and young people haven’t been fully heard. This conference aims to change that. It is your voice, your dreams that will guide the way.”
Emmamuzou urged all stakeholders to embrace the opportunity in order to create a Nigeria where young persons thrive, their well-being is nurtured, their health is protected and their voices are amplified.
Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, who was represented by Dr Claris Ujam, a deputy director at the Ministry of Education, said the Nigerian government was committed to empowering young people and giving them the chance to have their voices heard on issues that affect their well-being and development.
He said by investing in their health, education, and social well-being, the government is investing in a brighter and more promising tomorrow.
The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, said it was important to engage adolescents and youth early to ensure their health and well-being.
He advised the media to ensure more coverage of adolescents and youth issues.
