Police arrest two for promoting adulterated rice in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in reference to 57 adulterated baggage of rice blended with the chaff.

The spokesman of the command, ASP Sharif Sa’advert, who confirmed the arrest in a press release on Wednesday, stated the 2 suspects, Bashir Haruna, aged 35, of Dubai quarters Gombe and Mohammed Isah, aged 54, of Jibulu quarters Kumo, have confessed to mixing a number of baggage containing this combination and promoting them.

“On twenty fourth February 2024, at about 11:00 am, policemen from Akko Division, appearing on credible intelligence, intercepted and arrested the above-mentioned suspects in possession of 57 baggage of blended chaff, i.e rice and chaff, with the intent to deceive the general public and promote it as rice at market value.

“Throughout interrogation, the suspects confessed to mixing a number of baggage containing this combination and promoting them,” he stated.

In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, has directed that the 2 suspects be charged in courtroom and suggested most people to watch out and vigilant when shopping for grains in sacks to keep away from falling sufferer to such scams.
