Police arrest woman, four others for alleged tricycle theft

The Bauchi State Police Command said it had arrested five persons involved in alleged criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a press briefing by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer,  Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed.

Wakil explained that among the arrested suspects was a female individual who had been implicated in receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and subsequently selling them in Bauchi State.

The statement read, “Maryam Ibrahim alias Ummi ‘f’ aged 30 years, Adamu Sale alias Brother, ‘m’, aged 30 years, Umar Ibrahim alias Baba Luti, 31 years, Nasiru Usman, ‘m’, aged 29 years, Nasiru Musa Umar alias Nass ‘m’ aged 27 years.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that she has sold approximately seven stolen tricycles within Bauchi.

“This successful operation was made possible through credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities and the hard work of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi State Police Command.”

Wakil disclosed that the exhibit recovered included seven tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep.

He reiterated that “engaging in the receiving of stolen property is a serious offence with severe consequences, as per Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria.”

He stated that any person found guilty of this offence could face imprisonment for up to 14 years.

The PPRO appreciated the support and cooperation of the community in providing valuable information that led to the apprehension of the said suspects.
