The Delta State Police Command says it is on the trail of the abductors of ex-Rep member, Joan Onyemaechi.

Onyemaechi, a former House of the Representatives member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency and two-time member of the Delta State House of Assembly, was abducted on Tuesday after her two orderlies and driver were killed by her abductors.

The incident happened around 5:pm when she arrived at her church, King Jesus & I at Ogagifo Street, off DBS Road, Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The gunmen who had laid siege to the church premises, reportedly alighted from one of the parked vehicles and shot the police escorts.

The hoodlums were said to have been armed with sophisticated weapons and fired several gunshots ostensibly to scare perceived enemies before taking their victim away.

The vehicle was later set ablaze at the bank of the River Niger at the Otu-Ogwu area in Asaba to avoid any trace.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the former lawmaker was bundled blindfolded into a waiting blue flying boat to an unknown destination.

When our correspondent visited the Otu-Ogwu area where the vehicle was set ablaze, and observed that its number plate was removed before the fire.

However, the state police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, on Wednesday, said the police were trailing the kidnappers.

He said, “We are on the trail of the kidnappers but for now, no clue.”
