On Thursday, the Ekiti State Police Command announced the arrest of 10 individuals in relation to the death of Modupe Deborah, a student at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti.
Through the command’s handle on X (formerly Twitter), DSP Abutu Sunday, the command’s public relations officer, announced the news.
Sunday stated that on September 5, 2023, the school’s late nursing student who was enrolled in the 200-level was reported missing while on campus.
Deborah’s body was discovered in a shallow grave around 30 meters behind the nursing lecture hall, according to the PRO.
“This is to inform the general public that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the death of one Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 200-level nursing student of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), who was reported missing within the school grounds on September 5, 2023, but found dead in a shallow grave about 30 meters behind the nursing Lecture Hall,” Sunday said.
He pledged that the police would make sure that anyone responsible for the crime would face the full force of the law.
“While urging everyone to maintain their composure, the commissioner promises that the command will use every available resource to identify the offender(s) and see to it that they are forced to face the full force of the law.
The command requests that anyone with information on the heinous event contact the State CIID at 09064050086 or 08053499199, or go to the Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye-Ekiti.
“In the meantime, the deceased’s body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy while ten suspects are now being held for questioning.”
The student’s death had previously been reported by the school administration in a statement from the registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim.
“It will be remembered that earlier today, the Management made public the troubling development of the missing of the deceased and assured that investigation was ongoing as to unravel the locations of the unfortunate kids,” Ibrahim stated.
The claimed student is dead, according to recent information that the University’s security unit has received.
“While the University Management extends its condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire university community, in particular to our beloved students, the Management reiterated that an investigation is still ongoing and that it is being conducted in cooperation with national security agencies in order to identify the cause of the tragic event and apprehend those responsible.
