The Nigeria Police Force disclosed on Sunday that it recovered ammunition of various calibres following multiple crackdowns on criminal hideouts in Delta, Borno, and Sokoto states.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, also noted that several of the criminals were left with gunshot wounds.

According to Adejobi, a team of terrorists had attacked a police division in Borno State but was however repelled after a gun duel.

He narrated that the group was able to escape with gunshot wounds while a police officer sustained a gunshot injury.

Adejobi said, “In one instance, police operatives attached to the Borno State Command repelled a group of armed and dreaded terrorists on November 28, 2024. The group of unknown armed individuals attacked the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, at about 01:00 AM.

“Fortunately, the group was met with strong resistance from gallant operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, who successfully repelled the attack and left many of the attackers with varying degrees of bullet wounds, while one police officer was injured and is currently responding to treatment.”

He continued that in a similar incident in Sokoto, police operatives in the state conducted multiple raids on several black spots and recovered some AK-47 rifles including live ammunition.

The Police spokesperson continued, “On November 25, 2024, operatives attached to the Sokoto State Police Command, along with operatives from other sister security agencies, conducted raids on several black spots and bandit camps across various areas in the state, clearing out the camps and recovering some AK-47 rifles and several magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.

“Occupants of the camp took to their heels upon noticing the presence of the operatives while efforts are on top gear to apprehend them all.”

He added that a team of suspected kidnappers were repelled while attempting to carry out a kidnapping operation in the Asaba area of the state.

He narrated that a raid on the operational vehicles of the suspects led to the recovery of several guns, and live cartridges.

“Also, in a bid to suppress the activities of kidnappers, police operatives attached to the Delta State Command on November 28th 2024, acting on a report of attempted kidnapping at Asaba, immediately swung into action, giving hot chase to the suspected kidnappers.

“The operatives intercepted and engaged the suspects in a gun duel, overpowering the suspected kidnappers and forcing them to flee into a nearby bush with sustained bullet injuries.

“Subsequent search of the suspected kidnappers’ operational vehicle led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, two pump action rifles, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of AR Live ammunition, and 21 rounds of live cartridges,” Adejobi noted.
