President Trump: From a Discredited Political Class to the Most Discredited Politician

I need to reassure myself that they are not that mad. I could do that by making the argument that Trump had developed a campaign strategy to tell lies, be outrageous and express all the pent up prejudice that Americans have about the other just to get their vote and when he gets into the oval office, he will listen to enlightened Republican voices and get the technocrats to tell him what he should do. The United States has strong institutions, we are told, and that’s capable of reining in an errant president. I know this sounds hollow. These were the voices that told him he could not win; he won. They were the voices that told him he was immoral, stupid, temperamental and incapable of succeeding; and he had the last laugh, he won. With his pride, I find it difficult to believe that he would go to those he proved wrong to get advice on how to govern. So the path to the future is clear, someone will send a tweet that annoys him and he will unleash a nuclear bomb. That is how real the risk is.

Trump’s victory is a clear sign that the Republican Party leadership, the news media, the pollsters and the Democratic Party leadership were all wrong. Trump is right and will pursue his agenda. The only problem is that although we know some headlines of his agenda, we know very little about the content, so the uncertainty principle is key, going forward. Having read some of his crazy tweets and shocking speeches, in which one tweet will deny what he had asserted in an earlier one, his agenda would be difficult to read. He defines himself as an expert in the art of the deal, but we do not know what types. For example, it is not known what financial conflicts he might have, since he never released his tax returns, breaking with 40 years of tradition in both parties. If, as many suspect, his financial empire has been crumbling, the presidency might be an opportunity to make deals to boost the finances of the Trump brand. The campaign showed him to be impulsive, easily annoyed and ready to hit back when he is criticised, we do not know, given his simplistic thinking, whether he would think of nuclear weapons as an effective instrument to deal with those who annoy him.

He has repeatedly insulted women and threatened Muslims and immigrants. His taking America back is clearly an agenda for imposing total hegemony for the White community and the declaration of war against the others. Obviously, they will fight back and the future would be full of risks.

It is in this context that Trump could be a very dangerous president for the entire world. It is not even clear if he can focus on anything that requires sustained thinking. His temperament is clearly the opposite of what is required to be an America president. If Hilary Clinton could repeatedly bait and derail him during the debates, I dread to think of how the rest of the world could provoke him or lull him into actions he would later regret. Too many of his weaknesses have been exposed to the world and I dread to think of how people could use him for their purposes.

The United States is a large and diverse nation of 320 million people and he has insulted so many of its minorities. He has shown disdain for democracy and directly threatened to prosecute and jail his political opponents. He has announced that he would curtail the freedom of the press, because journalists criticised him. He has said he intends to carry out massive tax reductions for the wealthy and will cancel the healthcare protection of the Affordable Care Act from tens of millions of Americans. He has repeatedly insulted women and threatened Muslims and immigrants. His taking America back is clearly an agenda for imposing total hegemony for the White community and the declaration of war against the others. Obviously, they will fight back and the future would be full of risks.

He has promised to tear up many treaties and agreements signed by the United States. He would start by revoking support of the Iran deal, thereby increasing international tensions. He is determined to start a trade war with China and other countries, thereby pushing the world into a depression. He is convinced that climate change is fiction and has promised to repudiate last December’s Paris agreement on climate change. That move would encourage other countries that signed up reluctantly to also withdraw their support, posing a real danger to the future of life, as we know it. His proposal to commercialise international security efforts by destabilising NATO and doing security deals with countries that can pay alone is an open invitation to chaos and international wars, as well as a resumption of the arms race.

As many of his promises would be impossible to fulfil, he would early in his presidency experience serious disappointment from his base. That would be the most dangerous point, because to shore up support, he is likely to increase attacks on the Black and Hispanic community to blame them for his failures.

One of the reasons he was voted for is his determination to roll back women’s rights, including the right to abortions. There is already a vacancy in the Supreme Court where he has promised to appoint a conservative judge, and with Republican control of both Houses of Congress, that would be happening very soon. Civil rights would suffer a major regression, as he would encourage the expansion of mass killing of Black youth by the police. His promised expulsion of millions of Hispanics will expand the war on minorities to that community and his wall will cement the conflict.

As many of his promises would be impossible to fulfil, he would early in his presidency experience serious disappointment from his base. That would be the most dangerous point, because to shore up support, he is likely to increase attacks on the Black and Hispanic community to blame them for his failures. At that point, when the war deepens, White America would make its attempt to MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN using tools of genocide. I hope the other America is getting ready for the war. The crime of the political class, according to Trump, is that they allowed the others to live.

The war is however not going to be straightforward Black versus White. We now know that Hilary Clinton won the popular vote. The liberals within the White community are opposed to the direction Trump is moving the country to. The majority of Americans believe that there’s climate change, that sexual assault against women is unacceptable criminal behaviour. Increasingly, Americans are coming to the realisation that a debt-free college education is good for their young generation and that it’s desirable to have a true universal healthcare system. The reason that Trump would like to push America towards a race war is because he is conscious that the real war is ideological and its about rights, respect, equity and compassion. Liberal America must ensure that the war that will be fought and won is the ideological one. I can only wish them the best of luck in fighting the correct war.
