Frank Mba and Bala Ciroma have been appointed as Deputy Inspectors General of Police after receiving approval from the Police Service Commission.
This was stated in a statement released on Friday by Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s spokesperson.
Ani pointed out that DIG John Amadi, who previously represented the South-East zone and retired, will be replaced by DIG Ciroma, while DIG Mba will take the place of DIG Ali Janga, who retired from service and previously represented the North-East geopolitical zone in the Police Management Team.
“DIG Ciroma, the highest ranking zone officer, will henceforth serve as the zone’s representative. Prior to his retirement, retired DIG John Amadi represented the South-East zone; DIG Mba will do so going forward, according to the statement.
The promotion of 22 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioners and the promotion of 14 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police were also approved by the commission.
According to the PSC, these decisions marked the high points of the commission’s 21st plenary, which was presided over by De Solomon Arase, a former inspector general of police who also served as the commission’s chairman. Dr. Ifeoma Anyanwutaku, the commission’s permanent secretary/secretary, also attended.
Former CPs Shettima Zannah, Abubakar Lawal, Alhassan Aminu, Abdul Umar, Ebong Eyibio Ebong, Adepoju Ilori, and Okon Effiong are the new AIGs.
Additional ex-CPs include Susan Horsfall, Bankole Lanre Sikiru, Oladimeji Olarewaju, Sani Gwarzo, and Odama Ojeka.
The 22 former deputy commissioners of police who were promoted to the rank of chief police officers are Abibo Reuben, Thomas Nabhoni, Wakil Salamai, Enyinnaya Inonachi, Ronke Okunade, and Adekunle Olusokan.
Additional members of the group are CPs Hassan Yabnet, Festus Oko, Aminu Raji, Omolara Oluntola, Akoh Gabriel, Alamutu Mustapha, Bafda Jahun, Ahmadu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Mu’azu.
Additional ex-DCPs include Bretet Simon, Ihebom Chukuma, Shettima Qurtu, Olatokunbo Olabisi, Yusuf Lawal, Monica Leo, and Abaniwonda Olufemi.
24 Assistant Commissioners of Police were also approved for promotion to the position of DCPs by the commission.
Among them are former ACPs Wan Chongs, Commander PMF 19 Port Harcourt; Ezekiel Ibrahim, Project Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Mohammed Shamsudeen, Assistant Director, OPS, Kaduna (NCCSALW); Khan Usman, Networking Admin ICT FHQ, Abuja; Baba Audu, Area Commander, Exeter Akwa-Ibom State Command.
