Over 1,000 houses, market buildings, 11 churches and mosques were destroyed on Thursday by a rainstorm following a heavy downpour that battered 10 communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A resident of Kasuwan Magani, Mr Tanko Gajere who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, explained that the rainstorm started on Thursday evening around 6:30pm and lasted over three hours, rendering more than 400 families around the area homeless.

He added that “over 400 houses, 11 churches and a modern market were destroyed by the rainstorm.

“We’re in a very difficult situation now. There are some families who can hardly feed themselves before now, talk more about fixing their damaged homes.”

He further explained that the roofs of many houses were blown away by up to half a kilometre distance following the powerful effect of windstorms.

He said the affected communities need immediate government intervention, as most of the people affected who ordinarily could not even feed themselves have now been rendered homeless.

He appealed to both the Federal and the Kaduna State Governments to send relief materials to help cushion the effect of the disaster.

The affected communities are Kasuwan Magani, Dutsen Gaya, Rumau, Kanla, Iburu, Gefe, Ungwan Kajuru, Ungwan, Aku, Kufana and part of the Idon community.

He assured that the Kaduna State Government has been briefed about the sad incident but noted that they had yet to receive any intervention in the form of succour from the government.
