The police in Kano State have arrested 54 suspects who were planning to disrupt the Hawan Daushe festival in different parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Usaini Gumel, who disclosed this on Thursday, said, “We have arrested 54 suspects with assorted weapons who were planning to disrupt the ongoing Sallah festivity in different parts of the state.
“Exhibits of various descriptions, including cannabis, motorcycles, weapons, among others, were recovered from them.
“We are in possession of intelligence information that some youth are clustering under the guise of being admirers of some top political office holders of the state. They planned to storm the venue of the durbar organised by the Kano Emirate in various political regalia.
“The action was highly likely to attract counter reactions and ultimately lead to breakdown of law and order.”
He noted that, “The Sallah durbar is not a political activity, and any form of display of political party symbols, wearing of T-shirts, caps, erecting billboards and posters are instruments of misinterpretation; and ultimate breakdown of law and order will not be tolerated.
“Politicians are advised to prevail on their supporters to see the Sallah as a celebration of unity and tradition.”
