Senate Chief Whip Uzor Orji Kalu, senator-elect Abdulaziz Yari, and senator representing Niger East Mohammed Musa have all protested the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominations for senate leadership positions.

The party had nominated Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, and Senator Barau Jibrin of Kano North as Senate President and Deputy.

Yari expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement during a meeting with APC national chairman Abdullahi Adamu on Thursday in Abuja.
Former Zamfara governor Yari stated that senators want a level playing field.

“We are here to present our letter of grievances to you and also to tell this honourable house that as leaders, we are not satisfied with the arrangement,” he said after presenting a protest letter.

“What we expect from you is fair play, at the very least to mention that a specific position is zoned and that anyone in that zone cannot participate.”

Adamu, for one, stated that the party’s leadership would review their letter and address their concerns.

“Hold the fire until we say the last word; we are the party’s custodians as NWC, but we are not acting alone.” Tinubu, the President-elect, has an important voice,” Adamu said.

“We must do everything we can to accommodate him.” That is something I will not compromise on. He is currently outside the country, and by the grace of God, when he returns, we will go back to the drawing board and put our heads together again to see what we can come up with.

“I can’t preempt that; I’ll wait until we meet with the president-elect.”
