The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has expressed regret for remarks he made against the state’s former governor, Adams Oshiomhole, during their subsequent confrontation with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Despite their political differences, Shaibu said during a TVC programme on January 1 that Oshiomhole remained his father.

the claims that Obaseki and Oshomhole had a falling out in 2020 over Obaseki’s bid for a second term in office.

Shaibu supported Obaseki during the face-off, stating that Oshomhole was not fit to be playing a godfather.

Obaseki left the All Progressives Congress to run for reelection on the Peoples Democratic Party as a result of the rift.

The rumours that Obaseki and Shaibu are not getting along at the moment, in light of Shaibu’s desire to succeed Obaseki as governor of Edo.

Though Shaibu has now turned into their shared enemy, Oshiomhole and Obaseki appear to have resolved their differences based on their recent sightings together at state functions.

Speaking on the TVC programme that our correspondent was watching, Shaibu stated that his desire to succeed his principal, Obaseki, stemmed from a divine conviction to serve the state and return power to the people.

“In spite of our political differences, I insist that the former governor—who is currently a senator at the National Assembly—remain my father,” he said, expressing regret for the remarks I made against Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the past.

Regarding his aspirations, he declared, “I want to be the next governor of Edo State because it is my constitutional right, not because I am Philip Shaibu. I had extensively consulted with numerous people and organisations both inside and outside of Edo State before formally announcing my intention to run for office.

Additionally, I prayed to God in order to ask for wisdom and direction. The signs I received inspired me to pursue my goal, even though it was clear the governor intended to support someone else.
