Smart Education: UBEC trains teachers on design, multimedia content dev’t

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commenced the training of teachers on instructional design, multimedia content development to ensure effective implementation of smart education in Nigeria.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, said there was the need for teachers in the basic education sub-sector to acquire instructional design skills.

Bobboyi spoke at the opening ceremony of a 5-day training workshop on core foundational instructional design and multimedia content development organised by the Digital Resource Centre of the Commission.

A total of 27 teachers were selected from smart schools across the country for the training.

Head, Public Relations and Protocol, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Mr. David Apeh, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, quoted the Executive Secretary as saying that the training would enhance the capability of participants to develop relevant digital content in line with 21st century teaching and learning requirements.

He noted that Nigeria needed a large pool of skilled educators with digital learning content development skills in order to ensure improved teaching and learning outcomes in schools across the country.

The National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Professor Bashir Galadanci in his remarks, encouraged the trainees to actively participate in the training workshop to enrich their skills and competencies in effectively creating a database of homegrown educational content.

The workshop was designed to empower teachers to be able to create engaging, interactive gamified content and instructional materials for Smart Schools, E-Learning Centres and other public schools.

To achieve this, a team of seasoned experts facilitated the training on various modules and conducted intensive practical sessions on instructional design, multimedia content authoring and gamified learning tools.
