Suspected herdsmen kill three farmers in Benue community

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen in the early hours of on Friday, 3rd May, 2024 waylaid and killed three farmers in Ogbaulu community of Agatu LGA of Benue State.

The victims, Edoh Alhassan, Echewija Edoh and Simon Emmanuel, were ambushed and killed at about 9:30am while working in their farms located in-between Ogbaulu in Agatu LGA and Imana in Apa LGA.

Confirming the murder of the three farmers, Agatu LGA Chairman, Yakubu Ochohepo Pencil said he received the report about the killing with rude shock at about 10am on Friday.

He added that the herdsmen carrying out the unprovoked attacks and killings are currently camping at boundary communities between Apa and Agatu LGAs such as Akpete, Ikobi and Imana, calling on the security agencies to swiftly flush them out.

An eyewitness and a Youth Leader from Ogbaulu community, Comrade Adole Ajose Ehoda, also confirmed the attack, adding that they were currently at an undisclosed hospital, depositing the three corpses in the mortuary.

Condemning the attack, Benue South Senator and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, in a press statement by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche-Ofun, called on the federal and state governments to quickly nip the barbaric acts in the bud.

The member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Standing Committee on National Inland Waterways, Ojotu Ojema, expressed his sadness over the renewed killings, calling on the security agencies to take a decisive action to permanently put an end to the needless carnage.

Attacks and Killings by suspected herdsmen have become daily affair in Benue State.

It would be recalled that suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday, 28th April, 2024, ambushed and killed two Ogbaulu youths namely, Annes Salihu and David Simon.

Unknown gunmen also killed a young farmer, Adanu Nathan in his farm and butchered another youth, Idu Ohili the same day of on Wednesday, 1st May, 2024.
