Mai-Lemo said this while answering questions on Trust TV about how strong the Kwankwasiyya Movement is. Supporters are pushing for a political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso more and more online.

He said that both politicians have a lot of support from regular people in different parts of the country, calling their followership “organic” and able to affect the results of elections.

He said that this kind of alliance could bring together people from different political and regional backgrounds, especially those from the North and the South-East, and it could also boost support in the southern part of the country.

Mai-Lemo said that earlier attempts to create a similar alliance before the 2023 general election failed, but she still believes the idea is possible.

He said that if the two politicians worked together with support from leaders in other areas, it would change the country’s political landscape in a big way.

He said, “I think we need to be very honest.” We need to realize that we have seen what alliances can do. Sometimes you need to look at what’s really going on in order to reach your goals.

“Like I told you, everyone in the country knows that only Peter Obi and Kwankwaso have real followers. Those followers are ready to go. In fact, there are a lot of good things about it.

“It will help us bring together the northern and eastern parts of Nigeria with the southern part of the country.

“I think it’s easy to sell when the people in there support it.” I think Tinubu’s ticket will be dead on arrival once Peter Obi and Kwankwaso work together with the help of all the leaders from the other side of the country.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially distanced itself from the Kwankwasiya Movement and The National Movement (TNM), warning them to stop claiming membership or leadership roles within the party.

In a letter dated March 20, 2025, and sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), NNPP emphasized that its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the two groups ended in 2023 and should be respected.

The letter, signed by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam (Founder and Chairman of NNPP Board of Trustees) and Dr. Agbo Major (National Chairman), specifically addressed Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kwankwasiya leader) and Elder Buba Galadima (TNM leader), urging them to stop identifying with NNPP.

NNPP had initially partnered with these groups for the 2023 presidential election, allowing Kwankwaso to run as its candidate. However, after the election, the party terminated the agreement in July 2023.

Despite this, the groups continued associating themselves with NNPP, leading to expulsions of some members for anti-party activities.

The letter warned:

“You must forthwith desist from this fraudulent and heinous posturing… The structure and leadership of NNPP have, since July 28, 2023, reverted to its original founders.”

The development signals a further breakdown in relations between NNPP and the Kwankwasiya/TNM groups, which had played a significant role in the party’s 2023 election campaign.

Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, a former Secretary to the Government of Kano State, has expressed his frustration over the betrayal he experienced after supporting the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and its Kwankwasiyya faction.

“Alhamdulillah, I have completed my work safely, but unfortunately, we found ourselves with untrustworthy people.

“We contributed our fair share, but they betrayed us. I ask for your forgiveness and request that you wait for the right time, as we will soon speak up and reveal everything,” Dr. Baffa Bichi said.

He made this statement when he met with a group of young men and women who gathered to welcome him after his return from the holy land, where he had performed the Umrah pilgrimage.

Bichi emphasized that now is not the time to speak, but when the time is right, the youth will hear a variety of revelations.

“Thank you, and I also ask for your forgiveness. Now is not the time to speak, but we have written statements, audio, and video recordings. When the time comes, we will release them all,” he added.

He further stated that he would publicly expose the betrayal he faced to prevent others from being deceived by those who claim to be trustworthy but act otherwise. He described such individuals as people who speak of loyalty but fail to demonstrate it.
