Military men, police operatives, Department of State Services (DSS) operatives and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officials barricaded major roads leading to the Three Arms Zone.

Routes around the Supreme Court and Presidential Villa were also affected by the security lockdown, it was reported.

Access roads to the NEXIM Bank through Federal Secretariat axis, Bullet House and routes leading from Police Headquarters were restricted.

The operation began as early as 7am, leading to heavy traffic congestion.

Many workers who proceeded to the Federal Secretariat and National Assembly had to walk long distances to their offices.

Security operatives maintained a tight control at the entry points allowing only limited vehicular movement into the National Assembly Complex.

The deployment came after planned protests by Take-It-Back Movement, a civil society organisation led by activist and 2027 African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

The group was to demonstrate against worsening insecurity in the country. It also asked for the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The Three Arms Zone was cordoned off by security operatives to prevent the protesters from gaining access to the National Assembly Complex.

At the time of filing this report they could not get near the area because of a heavy security cordon.

Reports said the protesters, largely women, blocked the entrance to the office of the electricity distribution company and demanded immediate restoration of power supply to the area.

Residents say the blackout has lasted for several weeks, impacting economic activities, households and increasing the financial burden on residents who now depend heavily on alternative power sources.

Some community members said that the company didn’t provide enough information about the cause of the outage or when power would come back on.

The demonstrators also said they organised the protest after little action was taken on several complaints made to the company.

The residents, some of whom were holding placards and singing solidarity songs, appealed to the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure a permanent solution to the electricity crisis in the community.

Reacting to the protest, the officials of Ikeja Electric appealed to residents to remain calm saying the outage was due to technical issues.

The company reassured the community that work is on-going to correct the fault to restore stable power supply to the affected areas.

The protest is a sign of rising anger among residents in parts of Lagos over persistent problems with electricity supply and the economic impact of long blackouts on homes and businesses.

There were recently killings of some Nigerians in South Africa over the violent attacks.

The association is mobilising to take decisive and lawful action by organising peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said in a statement to newsmen.

“We categorically state that the ongoing persecution of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must end immediately.

“This will include big corporations like MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. Businesses thrive in an atmosphere where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while elsewhere Nigerians live in fear and face violence – a morally indefensible situation.

It said, “This contradiction will not be tolerated any longer.”

Igbokwe said this in a post on his official Facebook page in response to the peaceful protest by ADC members and supporters at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Remember that during the protest against INEC’s handling of the ADC leadership crisis, some of the party’s supporters were heard chanting “Tinubu must go.”

In response, Igbokwe asked why Tinubu should quit his job when he hasn’t even finished his first term yet.

He wrote, “I saw some street kids and touts yelling, “Tinubu must go, Tinubu must go.” Is Tinubu’s four-year term over?

“These kids from ADC don’t know what they’re doing and need to be trained.” The boys don’t know that the train has left the station.

At the same time, ADC says that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is trying to stop its planned national convention in Abuja by not letting the party use important public spaces.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, told Sahara Reporters on Friday that the ADC’s request to use the Eagle Square had not yet been answered and that its application for the Velodrome had been turned down.

“Not that I know of.” We sent in an application for Eagle Square, but they haven’t gotten back to us. “We also asked to use the velodrome, but they said they are hosting a cycling championship,” Abdullahi said.

When asked where the party would hold its convention now that things are unclear, he wouldn’t say.

“We’re not going to say that right now,” he said.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s National Chairman David Mark, and other opposition leaders are anticipated to take part in the protest.

https://thenigerian.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/VID-20260408-WA0015.mp4

A protracted leadership conflict that has shattered the party and increased tensions within its ranks coincides with the planned protest.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to stop recognizing David Mark’s leadership is at the heart of the situation.

The action has made attempts to stabilize the party and settle the ongoing leadership dispute more difficult.

As a third faction emerged on Tuesday, the situation deteriorated and the party’s internal differences grew.

A opposing group led by former Deputy National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is also vying for the party’s national chairmanship, has been fighting the Mark-dominated National Working Committee (NWC) for dominance.

A new development was the announcement of the creation of a National Caretaker Committee by another group allegedly associated with former ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachukwu.

Supported by a few state chairmen, the group declared that the interim committee would manage the party’s operations while the situation was being resolved.

The ADC currently seems to be divided into three rival groups, each vying for control of the party’s leadership, as a result of the most recent development.

Some opposition politicians have claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be responsible for the party’s current predicament, despite internal divides.

They asserted that outside powers are trying to undermine the opposition in preparation for upcoming elections.

He claims to have received a call from the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding a supposed plan to organize a nationwide protest regarding the conflict between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to reports, INEC has suspended recognition of the ADC’s national chairman, former Senate President David Mark, and national secretary, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.

According to reports, INEC took action in response to an Appeal Court ruling and a lawsuit brought by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a party factional leader.

The opposition leaders, who united and embraced the party prior to the 2027 general elections, are perplexed by the move.

The party accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of planning the crisis, and there are signs that there would be a statewide demonstration.

In a video clip that he uploaded to his Facebook page on Tuesday, VDM claimed that he received a call from a DSS agent asking about the purported scheduled protest.

He claims that the caller insisted on knowing the purpose of the planned protest, claiming that they are planning to incite disturbance nationwide.

“This morning, I received a call from a DSS official asking what the purpose of the protest you people are organizing is,” he stated. What protest, I asked him? since I have no plans to protest anywhere.

According to the report they received, he informed me, “I and some people want to cause unrest in this country.”

He claimed that in order to incite disturbance, ADC hired me to spearhead the demonstration on their behalf due to INEC. I informed the person over the phone that I do not support ADC anywhere and that I am not partisan.

The community where the incident happened on Sunday night, Anguwan Rukuba, was the site of the demonstration.

Videos from the demonstration that went viral on social media showed locals yelling and calling for immediate government action in response to the area’s ongoing killings.

The government’s alleged inability to stop the state’s frequent attacks was a source of irritation for some of the protesters.

One of the locals taking part in the demonstration claimed that the government-imposed curfew was insufficient to address the ongoing security issues.

Because of yesterday’s attack, many people are outside. The demonstrator stated, “They chased the security personnel because they are not helping right here.”

He said that residents were forced to flee for their life when the terrorists attacked amid a power outage.

“Yesterday between 7 and 8 p.m., there was no light, so these people firing — as in straight shooting on rapid — a lot of people had to flee for their lives,” the protest stated.

According to eyewitnesses, the demonstration was subsequently broken up when Nigeria Police Force officers entered the area to scatter the gathering.

Witnesses said that when officers were getting ready to use tear gas, they pursued the demonstrators.

“The police want to shoot at us, so people are fleeing.” An eyewitness stated, “They want to shoot tear gas.”

The demonstration came after an assault on Sunday night in which inhabitants of Anguwan Rukuba were attacked by suspected gunmen who were allegedly wearing military uniforms.

According to witnesses, the assailants entered the area about 8 p.m. and began shooting randomly at people in what they characterized as a crowded market area.

Nyam Isaac, a resident, claimed that multiple persons were hurt by the attackers.

Around 8:00 p.m., gunmen arrived in Angwan Rukuba and started shooting at random. It’s a market environment. They arrived in soldier khaki, according to witnesses. Many were hurt by them, he claimed.

Many Nigerians have expressed concern over the ongoing killings in Plateau State in response to the tragedy, which has caused a great deal of uproar on social media.

“Jos is under curfew tonight,” wrote a social media user going by the handle Kaptain Kush. Sunday, Palm. At least ten people were killed when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a college neighborhood. Since Thursday, the Plateau has seen almost 40 deaths.

Oyindamola, another user, questioned the government’s handling of the ongoing violence.

“It’s very unfortunate what happened in Jos yesterday. Why is the government permitting its population to experience this? “What sort of government is this?” she questioned.

The Jos North Local Government Area was placed under a 48-hour curfew by the Plateau State Government in reaction to the assault.

In a statement on Sunday, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, confirmed the development.

“The government has imposed a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect in response to the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba today, Sunday, resulting in the loss of lives,” the statement stated.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang assured locals that security forces had been sent in to capture the perpetrators while denouncing the assault as savage and unwarranted.

Additionally, the governor expressed gratitude to the people of Enyimba city for their nonviolent behavior.

Speaking at administration House in Umuahia on Friday during his monthly media conference, Otti stated that the Abia State administration took all necessary steps to prevent a breakdown in law and order after learning about the development.

Additionally, he emphasized that the data his agency received indicated that the residents were not subjected to harassment by security personnel.

We express our gratitude to the security services for not using violence against the inhabitants. We also applaud the peacefulness of the Aba people.

Governor Otti stated that his administration will never allow the destruction of people’s fields in response to the alleged actions of herdsmen in certain Abia villages.

However, he advised the people of Abia to report the laws to the appropriate authorities so that appropriate action might be taken instead of enforcing them themselves.

“If a herdsman destroys someone’s farm, we will not tolerate it. Additionally, we advise the public not to enact legislation on their own,” he stated.

Regarding the rising cost of housing in Umuahia and Aba, Otti stated that he would not compel landlords to charge low prices because, in his opinion, the influx of citizens from other towns and the great demand for accommodations are the main causes of the high cost.

Nonetheless, he claimed that the housing estates his government is currently constructing throughout the state would aid in addressing the problems associated with house rent.

Healthcare professionals from all over the nation are anticipated to attend the protest, which is set for today, Thursday, March 26, at the National Assembly Complex. Participants will gather at the Unity Fountain in Maitama, Abuja.

JOHESU instructed its affiliate unions and professional associations to mobilize members in large numbers in an official communication that our correspondent was able to obtain on Thursday morning. The communication warned that the proposed legislation could have significant effects on healthcare professionals and the industry as a whole.

Martin Egbanubi, National Secretary of JOHESU, who signed the notice, spoke about the planned protest and stated that it was essential to raise public awareness of the possible consequences of the measures.

According to Egbanubi, “our members must educate the general public on how the Health Sector Executive Bills 2026 affect their respective professions in particular and the health sector in general.”

He urged full participation, describing the planned action as a crucial time for healthcare professionals.

He said, “Your involvement in this historic existential struggle is highly solicited and essential.”

The organization claims that health workers are worried that the legislation, which have already passed the Senate’s first reading, will change the industry’s current structures, professional positions, and welfare circumstances.

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals are two of the primary health sector unions that make up JOHESU. Historically, JOHESU has been a key player in labor issues in Nigeria’s health sector.

The group has regularly challenged the Federal Government on matters including pay scales, hazard allowances, and the perceived hegemony of some professional associations in sector-related policy choices.

Millions of Nigerians are impacted by ongoing tensions in the country’s healthcare system, which frequently show up as strikes and service interruptions. Concerns over welfare, professional recognition, funding disparities, and health institution governance are frequently the source of disputes.

Nigeria’s health sector is already struggling due to a lack of workers, brain drain, and poor facilities, which is why the Health Sector Executive Bills 2026 have emerged. The system has been further undermined by the large number of healthcare professionals who have continued to relocate overseas in quest of better working conditions.
