This was stated in an interview by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

He said petitions have already gone to the security agencies asking them to intervene.

“We are waiting for guidance from our legal department on how to proceed,” Mohammed said.

“We are just law abiding men and women for the party and we cannot do beyond what the security agencies are to do,” he said.

“We have written a petition and brought to the attention of the police and other relevant security agencies what we have done. That’s all we have to do.”

The party will assess the situation and decide whether to move ahead with legal action, he said.

It was understood that the PDP crisis was as a result of the Supreme Court’s April 30 decision that voided the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16.

The convention which was endorsed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, produced the Turaki-led leadership.

After the judgement, the Adolphus Wabara led Board of Trustees reformed Turaki and others into an Interim National Working Committee.

The group has continued to operate against the leadership of the PDP recognized by INEC and supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Mohammed said the police had invited Turaki and Wabara over the matter, but alleged the faction kept on pushing misleading narratives.

“They continue to be resolute in misinterpreting and pushing wrong narratives into the media space,” he said.

He appealed to security agencies to step up efforts to resolve the dispute.

In its reaction, the Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee led by Turaki, Ini Ememobong, said the matter was a legal issue and not a security one.

The faction’s actions, he said, were in conformity with court judgments, the PDP constitution and the Nigerian laws.

“Our response is simple, it shows the level of ignorance of the law on which they operate,” Ememobong said.

“This issue is not a security issue, it is a legal issue which involves the judgment of court and we acted in accordance with the judgments, PDP Constitution and the laws of Nigeria.

Ememobong warned that the law could be properly applied to those filing petitions and who could face consequences.

“It is not always that the petitioner is right, because petitioner can become hunted,” he said.

The PDP under Turaki is a legitimate leadership and will continue to pilot the affairs of the PDP.

The challenge followed Wike’s earlier in the week monthly media chat where he asked the Turaki-led group to prove its authenticity by operating transparently.

The minister also threatened to close down any building used by the faction for its activities.

The Cable quoted the former PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary and private principal secretary to Turaki, Ibrahim Abdullahi, as saying the faction already has a temporary office.

“If he can, let Wike take over the office. He knows where it is,” he said.

“We have been running an office,” Abdullahi said. He knows where it is. He ought to go there and take possession of the office, if he can.

“It is an interim office but we are having meetings and doing our functions.

“The crisis that is rocking the PDP is escalating and pushing the country to what I call a Hobbesian state of anarchy where life is brutish, short and nasty,” he warned.

Wike lambasted by Ememobong
The spokesperson of the Turaki faction, Ini Ememobong, however, called Wike’s threat delusional.

He said the PDP maintains party accounts, which the FCT minister was aware of.

Ememobong said: “His delusional claim that he can handle banks that will open accounts for us is delusional, because he already knows that we are running the party’s accounts, which is why his group of friends are receiving money through private accounts.”

Oruruo said the emergence of Turaki as the National Chairman of the party was a turning point for the PDP after the recent internal crises.

He told newsmen shortly after his return from Abuja that he had strong confidence in Turaki’s ability to stabilize and reposition the party at a critical moment in the nation’s political terrain.

“I have unalloyed confidence in the profound dexterity and unwavering commitment of Kabiru Turaki to navigate the troubled party to safety, especially at a time Nigeria is begging for a nationally accepted party with proven credentials,” he said.

The Enugu PDP chairman also praised the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, for what he described as a bold and principled decision.

He said the BoT had shown unity and integrity in handling the crisis.

“The BOT has demonstrated that it is not only united and untainted but is proudly insulated from all manipulations even at the greatest risk of inducement or threat,” he said.

Oruruo also added his voice to the recent Supreme Court judgment that has affected the party, giving a strong interpretation of the implications.

“While the Supreme Court Justices unanimously sustained the suspension of Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and others, they nullified the Ibadan Convention in a split decision,” he said.

He said the ruling effectively nullifies actions by the suspended faction.

“The impact of this decision is that it is sweeping but devastating, all actions taken by these suspended elements on behalf of the PDP are null and void and of no effect,” Oruruo said.

He called the rival leadership structure illegitimate. “The inauguration of Anyanwu’s National Committee was ab initio a farce. “The Abuja Kirishi convention was also a glamorous joke taken too far.”

With the matter of leadership now settled, Oruruo said the party was poised to resume political activities across the country.

“Now that the BOT has acted boldly in line with the judgment of the Supreme Court, our party is ready to commence the sale of interest and nomination forms to interested aspirants through the legitimate and genuine leadership from the national to subnational levels,” he said.

The Enugu PDP chairman also called for a wider political reset in Nigeria, stressing the need for people-oriented governance.

“We owe the Nigerian people a duty to recalibrate and reinvent the Nigerian leadership model to resonate with the aspirations and yearnings of the electorate.

He said: “We will take back the wheel of statecraft and turn it in the direction of the will of the majority.”

Umar Sani, a chieftain of the PDP faction, said Wike knows the office in the vicinity of Area 10, Abuja, when he spoke on Thursday, and challenged the FCT Minister to carry out the demolition of the building as threatened.

Recall that Wike had threatened during his monthly media chat on Wednesday to seal off any house in Abuja being used as the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the faction led by Taminu Turaki.

Wike also warned that any bank that allows the Turaki-led PDP to open an account for the sale of nomination forms for the 2027 election would be in trouble.

Any effort by the Turaki faction to sell form to any aspirant for the 2027 polls will be a duping of Nigerians, he said.

Wike boasted that any day Turaki opens a bank account for the PDP under the present circumstance, he will be derobed as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

However, Sani, who spoke during an interview with Arise News on Thursday, alleged that the Wike-led PDP is selling nomination forms for cash and if they are using the PDP bank accounts, it will come straight to them.

He also said the PDP incorporation documents were with the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) led by Adolphus Wabara, not the Wike-led PDP.

We have an office that we are running and it is in Area 10 (Abuja). Let him come and destroy the office. Wike knows the office,” he added.

Turaki, who used to be the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, was brought before Justice Peter Kekemeke on a single charge of allegedly giving the police false information.

The Inspector-General of Police filed the charge, which was marked CR/647/2026. It said that he gave false information in a petition dated October 5, 2022.

The charge says that “you… gave false information to the Inspector-General of Police via a petition dated October 5, 2022.”

According to the police, the crime is punishable by Section 140 of the Penal Code Law. When the charge was read in open court, Turaki said he was not guilty.

His lawyer, Abulaziz Ibrahim (SAN), asked the court to let him out on bail, saying that the crime was bailable.

He said, “My Lord, this defendant is also the real leader of the PDP… an elder statesman, a former Minister, and a respected leader in the community.”

Usman Rabiu, the prosecution’s lawyer, opposed the application, saying that the defendant had avoided service and had not shown up for court until he was declared wanted.

He asked the court to keep Turaki in jail, saying that bail should only be given out carefully.

Justice Kekemeke said in his decision that bail is a basic right and that the defendant had willingly come to court.

The judge said that the prosecution didn’t show that Turaki was a flight risk. As a result, the court gave Turaki bail of N100 million and one surety of the same amount.

It said that the surety had to be a Senior Advocate of Nigeria with at least 20 years of experience or a lawyer with at least 40 years of experience.

The case was put off until June 11 for a hearing by Justice Kekemeke.

The group said that the alleged bias of the electoral umpire could hurt the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with Daily Trust, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, made the claim and said that the INEC chairman had not shown that he was neutral.

He said that Amupitan’s actions had made people worry about the commission’s ability to hold fair and free elections.

The chairman of the INEC has been very open about his political views. “We have said this many times and can say it again,” Ememobong said.

He said that the supposed partisanship was a big problem that made it hard to hold fair elections.

He went on to say, “His partisanship is the biggest problem for holding a free and fair election in 2027.”

Ememobong told the INEC chairman to resign to protect the integrity of the election process.

He said that resigning early would help the public trust the commission again before the next general election.

ADC Also Says There Is Bias
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) also spoke out against what they said was the INEC chairman’s partisan behavior.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said on Saturday that the alleged past partisan comments were “a grave affront to the integrity of our electoral system.”

The party also said that civil disobedience could get worse if the INEC chairman didn’t quit.

Turaki said that the meeting was an important time to think about things and that everyone there was committed to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.

On his 𝕏 page, the PDP leader said that the event brought together important political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other ADC leaders.

He said that the main topic of conversation at the meeting was the problems that all of the country’s opposition parties face.

Turaki said that the visit showed that opposition leaders are starting to realize how important it is to work together when political pressure is rising.

He said that the PDP delegation included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Adolphus Wabara, the party’s Board of Trustees Chairman, and Jerry Gana, a founding member of the party and former Minister of Information.

Turaki noted that discussions during the meeting were frank and focused on the political headwinds facing opposition parties, which he said reflected a broader pattern affecting democratic plurality in Nigeria.

He also said that both sides were determined to protect democratic values and make sure that people who disagree with them have a place to speak out in the country.

Turaki also said that the meeting showed how important it is to keep a strong opposition party in Nigeria’s democracy.

The PDP chieftain further described the visit as a demonstration of collective responsibility among political actors to put national interest first, protect democratic values and work towards a more inclusive political future.

The statement said, “Yesterday, I had the honor of leading a delegation from our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on a visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to show our support.” It was more than just a formal meeting; it was a time to think, share worries, and reaffirm our shared duty to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

“As we sat across from well-known leaders like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other ADC leaders. It was clear and sobering: the problems that opposition parties in Nigeria face today are real, shared, and require everyone to work together.

“I felt a great deal of responsibility when I led this group, which included well-known people like His Excellency Seyi Makinde, Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President, and Prof. Jerry Gana. Not just to represent the PDP, but to stand in defence of democratic ideals that transcend party lines.

“We talked openly about the political and other pressures that opposition parties are facing.” These things don’t happen in a vacuum; they are part of a larger trend that threatens the very idea of political diversity in our country. We came not only in solidarity, but also with a shared determination because we had seen similar problems in our own party.

The most important thing was the spirit of respect and understanding between people. Even though we had different political views, we all agreed that democracy must be protected, voices must not be silenced, and there must always be room for healthy opposition.

“This visit reminded me that there is a higher duty than politics—to Nigeria, its people, and the future we all want to build.”

Turaki personally signed a statement on Wednesday confirming the information.

A committee to communicate with the faction supporting Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has been established, according to the factional PDP National Chairman. The committee’s goal is to resolve unresolved issues and reposition the party for the 2027 elections.

In order for the reconciliation to proceed in good faith and serve the party’s interests overall, he promised that his own side had reduced confrontational communication on all fronts and urged the opposing camp to cease making cruel and disparaging remarks.

He claims that there is still hope because the PDP is still in existence and would field candidates for the general elections in 2027.

Here is the complete statement.

“The Board of Trustees of the party, skillfully led by His Excellency, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, GCON, established a high-powered committee to interact with our estranged party members in order to resolve outstanding issues and reposition the party for the elections, in response to the Court of Appeal, Ibadan’s recommendation a few weeks ago that parties in the suit should explore reconciliation to save the party from further strife and provide a platform for aspirants to seek elective offices in the upcoming elections.

As a show of good faith, the National Working Committee promptly sent out a notification delaying the National Executive Committee and National Caucus meetings that were originally planned to take place two days later. On all fronts, we also reduced the intensity of aggressive communication. We anticipated a reciprocal gesture, but instead we have seen cruel speech being weaponized and disparaging remarks being made. However, we continue to be aware of the wide-ranging consequences of this disagreement, especially in light of the current Electoral Act’s strict deadlines. As a result, we urge the other group’s leadership to act in the best interests of the many party members who rely on our platform to run for elected office.

“I can categorically state that as of right now, leaders on both sides have broken the ice and are investigating different avenues for a long-term settlement. To avoid endangering the current peace efforts, we implore all of our supporters to quickly defuse tense conversations and behaviors.

“To all of the candidates who have supported us thus far, we guarantee that, with God’s grace, our party will field candidates for all elective seats in accordance with Article 6(2) of the PDP Constitution (as revised in 2017).

Additionally, we are deeply grateful to Nigerians nationwide who have continued to express interest in our party and have registered through our online platform, http://iampdp.org. Our loyal supporters’ faith is unwavering in spite of recent setbacks. We are working hard to find solutions to the problems at hand for them.

As we all know, democracy necessitates more than just holding regular elections; it also calls for a strong opposition and a vibrant civil society to keep the government responsible. Even as an opposition party, we are dedicated to protecting and strengthening our democracy since we are Nigeria’s only remaining legacy party in the current republic and have had the unique honor of ruling this nation for 16 years.

“We urge individuals in positions of responsibility to never lose sight of the fact that they are representatives of the people and that their actions must always reflect the will of the people. The people are ultimately in charge, thus they must continue to be the focal point of government.

Before I wrap up, let me express the NWC’s unequivocal vote of confidence in Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their tenacity and unwavering leadership in the face of recent difficulties.

“Let me conclude by assuring Nigerians that the PDP is still in existence and will take part in the upcoming elections, providing a legitimate platform for strong political contests at all levels, so that power may truly return to the people.”

On Friday, National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong released a statement from the party.

The court refused to grant the party’s request for an order of mandamus, stating that doing so would be equivalent to sitting on appeal over decisions made by courts with coordinating jurisdiction.

In response, the party stated that it has given its attorneys instructions to submit an appeal right away and take all required legal actions to strengthen its case and defend its position.

The Ibadan National Convention gave rise to the Turaki-led PDP leadership, which stressed that it is “legally intact and unshaken” while it awaits rulings from appellate courts.

Ememobong remarked, “Not withstanding this judgment, our party remains firmly on course. We implore our members to be steadfast and dedicated because there is no reason to be concerned.

The party reaffirmed that it is still on track with its Rebirth Movement.

Turaki made this statement on Thursday in his New Year message to Nigerians, noting that the APC has failed to provide good governance and economic relief in the country.
He said 2026 presents an opportunity to renew collective hope for lasting peace, sustainable progress, and shared prosperity for the nation.

According to him, PDP remains committed to offering tested, trusted and people-centred leadership.
Turaki stated that in a further display of arrogance and disregard for public welfare, the APC-led Federal Government has introduced tax policies that are clearly anti-people and economically suffocating.

“We remain the only viable opposition alternative to APC. Nigerians reflect with nostalgia on the era of PDP governance, a period marked by relative economic stability, optimism, and progress,” he said.
