On Tuesday night, suspected terrorists burned 11 people to death in an attack on the Chisu village in the Mangu Local Government of Plateau State.
Around 11 o’clock at night, the victims allegedly heard sporadic gunfire in the neighbourhood and fled to a house in the village for safety. However, the attackers followed them there and set the house on fire, killing them.
Michael Bulus, a member of the Chisu community who managed to flee the attack, confirmed the villagers’ demise in Jos on Wednesday.
Before fleeing, the terrorists, according to Bulus, also set fire to a church along the Mangu-Bokkos Road and other buildings.
The Mangu Local Government’s Chisu village was attacked by terrorists last night at around 11:00 p.m., according to Bulus.
“When the terrorists entered the neighbourhood, there were sporadic gunshots, and the residents began to flee. Some of them sprinted to a local official’s home. Sadly, the terrorists set the house on fire, and 11 burned-dead bodies were later found this morning (Wednesday).
Before leaving the neighbourhood, the terrorists set fire to the COCIN Regional Church Council Bwai along Mangu Bokkos Road. They also destroyed other homes, cars, and tricycles.
When contacted about the incident, Alabo Alfred, a spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, did not return his calls.
Sources at the command centre in Jos, however, confirmed that more security personnel had been sent to the impacted community as a result of reports.
