President Bola Tinubu has endorsed a collaboration between the Peek Vision Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Health’s National Eye Health Programme to distribute more than 5 million pairs of eyeglasses to Nigerians suffering from vision problems across the nation.
After Prof. Andrew Bastawrous, the founder and CEO of Peak Vision Foundation, visited the President at the Abuja State House, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communication Ajuri Ngelale revealed this in a press release.
President Tinubu’s earlier eye project
Speaking during the visit, the President described his experience with his mother who was affected with eye difficulties and how it motivated him to engage in similar activities during his tenure as Governor of Lagos state.
According to him, “I made a vow to her because of that question my mother asked me and because of her enthusiasm to see others healed that I will pursue the mass distribution of eye care actively and that I would deliver free eye tests and procedures to individuals.
Prof. Andrew Bastawrous says, “We eventually improved the eye health of millions of Lagos residents, and you could see their delight at the immediate improvements in vision when they received a pair of glasses.”
The founder and CEO of the Peak Vision Foundation talked about how having vision problems as a child hindered his academic achievement until they were fixed.

By declaring, “I am in support of this initiative, and I will encourage the mobilisation of more commitment to see this through and to reach vulnerable individuals all across our country,” the President further demonstrated his dedication to the programme. While other parents might not take this into consideration, I will because it has touched me.
