President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, congratulated elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, on his 96th birthday.
The President “commends Chief Adebanjo for his decades of spirited advocacy for a united and equitable Nigeria, as well as for contributions to enriching the national discourse,” Tinubu said in a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
“President Tinubu wishes Pa Adebanjo a happy birthday and prays to God Almighty to grant him many more years in excellent health,” Ngelale said in a statement titled, ‘President Tinubu greets Chief Ayo Adebanjo on birthday.’
Born on April 10, 1928 in Ijebu Ogbo, called “Small London,” Adebanjo had his primary education on Lagos Island between 1934 and 1943.
He joined the Action Group as a member of an Area Council when the political party was created in 1951.
He was trained as a lawyer in the United Kingdom and was called to the Bar in June 1961.
Afterwards, he returned to Nigeria and served in Awolowo Chambers on professional tutelage.
After a stint in journalism at the Daily Service (later Daily Express) newspaper, Adebanjo was appointed as Organising Secretary of the Action Group, Remo Division.
