President Bola Tinubu has received praise from the National Association of Nigerian Students for the 2023 Yuletide season transportation discount.

In a statement released in Enugu on Wednesday, NANS President Mr. Pedro Obi expressed his appreciation for Tinubu’s dedication to the well-being of Nigerians and offered the commendation.

The Federal Government announced intentions to subsidise all luxury buses for the convenience of citizens wishing to travel during the festive seasons through the Chairman of the Interministerial Committee on the Presidential Intervention on Public Transportation, Dele Alake.

According to Obi, Tinubu’s move showed his dedication to the well-being of Nigerians and was a proactive measure to lessen the difficulties faced by tourists.

“This discount certainly eases the financial strain on many Nigerians, making it more feasible for them to participate in the festivities and reunite with loved ones,” he stated.

While we appreciate this kind act, NANS urges President Tinubu to think about sharing this generosity with students all throughout the country as part of its advocacy for student welfare.

“NANS requests that President Tinubu further ease the financial load on students by providing free transport for those who can be identified with their student identity cards, as we recognise the financial difficulties faced by students, particularly during the holidays.”

According to Obi, NANS strongly feels that extending the transportation discount to students would greatly ease their financial hardships and recognises the value of assisting Nigerian students in their academic endeavours.

According to him, this would free up the students’ finances so they could travel to their different families.

“NANS is steadfast in its commitment to championing the welfare and concerns of Nigerian students and enthusiastically looks forward to additional constructive initiatives that give the country’s students and youths top priority,” the statement read.

Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, stated that Tinubu’s approval of a 50% nationwide reduction in land transport costs will apply to the country’s Christmas and New Year celebrations, which take place from December 21 to January 4, 2024.

Alake stated that “this presidential initiative is to give succour to the masses” and that the president has also approved zero rates for train transport in all of the Federation’s states during the same time frame.

The minister revealed this information to reporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He claimed that the transport minister, the transport unions, and the proprietors of luxury buses had worked out all the implementation logistics.
