The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate for the Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam Federal Constituency, Yusuf Umar Datti, was not elected, according to the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano State.

Due to Yusuf’s refusal to resign from his position as a lecturer at Bayero University in Kano within 30 days of the election, the tribunal, presided over by Justice Flora Ngozi Azingbe, declared his election invalid.

Justice Azingbe further ruled that Datti was unable to persuade the panel that he belongs to the NNPP.

The tribunal’s ruling was followed by a declaration that Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the election’s legitimate victor.

Kwankwaso served as a commissioner in Kano State under the previous governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
