Troops detain wanted cross-border terrorist, foil N1.2bn crude oil theft

The Nigerian Army says forces in the North West nabbed infamous terrorist commander Abubakar Ibrahim (AKA) Habu Dogo this week.

According to a statement signed on Saturday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, the development was achieved as part of the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, which have continued to degrade terrorist combat capacity across the country.

Habu Dogo, a wanted terrorist on the watch list of security authorities in Nigeria and the Niger Republic due to his cross-border terrorist activities, was apprehended in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto.

He is a wanted terrorist on the watch list of security agencies both in Nigeria and in the Niger Republic. Similarly, forces in the South East detained seven IPOB/ESN terrorist commanders and operatives.

According to the announcement, the IPOB/ESN terror operators apprehended are Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha (AKA Chapet), who were arrested in Anambra State’s Ihiala Local Government Area. Ngozi Chukwuka and Oyekachi Ohia have also been arrested in Abia State’s Umuahia South Local Government.

Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, and Onyedikachi Udemba, all IPOB operatives, were arrested in Abia State’s Umunneochi Local Government Area. Elijah Mmaduipeya Obumneke has been arrested in Imo State’s Orsu Local Government Area.

During the review period, troops neutralised 187 and detained 262 people.

Troops also captured 39 oil thieves and rescued 147 kidnapped captives.

In the South-South, troops denied stealing oil worth an estimated N1.2 billion.

In addition, troops recovered 205 different weapons and 5,241 different rounds of ammunition.

The recovered weapons include two G3 rifles, two PKT guns, 89 AK47 rifles, 22 fabricated rifles, 22 Dane guns, two FN rifles, two pistols, two fabricated revolver pistols, 27 locally made pistols, 19 pump action guns, two pump action shotguns, one DICON pistol, eight double barrel guns, one barreta pistol, and 32 magazines.

Other items include 1,862 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,244 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 131 rounds of 7.62x54mm, 959 rounds of 7.62x39mm, 352 rounds of 9mm ammo, 51 rounds of 7.62x51mm ball ammo, 662 live cartridges, two baofeng radios, six vehicles, 29 motorcycles, and 55 mobile phones, among others.

Troops in the Niger Delta uncovered and destroyed 49 crude oil cooking furnaces, 11 dugout pits, 72 boats, 21 drums, 30 storage tanks, and 98 illicit processing facilities. Other things found include four speedboats, one tricycle, four pumping machines, one outboard engine, two motorcycles, two mobile phones, and three automobiles. The region also seized 1,090,135 gallons of stolen crude oil and 873,510 litres of illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO).
